Prof. Furst is the Paul M. Cook Career Development Professor of Chemical Engineering at MIT. Her group engineers easy-to-use, inexpensive technologies for sustainability and environmental remediation to support global energy equity. She completed her Ph.D. at Caltech developing non-invasive cancer diagnostics, followed by an A. O. Beckman Postdoctoral Fellowship at UC Berkeley, where she engineered microbes as pollutant sensors. She is a 3M Nontenured Faculty Awardee, a CIFAR Azrieli Global Scholar for bio-inspired solar energy, a 2023 Dreyfus Teacher-Scholar, and an ARO Early Career Grantee. She was awarded the 2022 MIT UROP Outstanding Faculty Mentor Award for her work with undergraduates, reflecting her commitment to increase participation of underrepresented groups in STEM.
